THE FOLLOWING TESTIMONY BELOW WAS WRITTEN IN 1880. (At the time this testimony was written, the first 29 “Testimonies For the Church” and the first 3 Volumes of “Spirit of Prophecy” had been written. Volume 4 of “Spirit of Prophecy” had not yet been written until 1884.):

“The volumes of Spirit of Prophecy, and also the Testimonies, should be introduced into every Sabbathkeeping family, and the brethren should know their value and be urged to read them. It was not the wisest plan to place these books at a low figure and have only one set in a church. They should be in the library of every family and read again and again. Let them be kept where they can be read by many, and let them be worn out in being read by all the neighbors. 

There should be evening readings, in which one should read aloud to those assembled at the winter fireside. There is but little interest manifested to make the most of the light given of God. Much of it is concerning family duties, and instruction is given to meet almost every case and circumstance. Money will be expended for tea, coffee, ribbons, ruffles, and trimmings, and much time and labor spent in preparing the apparel, while the inward work of the heart is neglected. God has caused precious light to be brought out in publications, and these should be owned and read by every family. Parents, your children are in danger of going contrary to the light given of heaven, and you should both purchase and read the books, for they will be a blessing to you and yours. You should lend Spirit of Prophecy to your neighbors and prevail upon them to buy copies for themselves. Missionaries for God, you should be earnest, active, vigorous workers. 

Many are going directly contrary to the light which God has given to His people, because they do not read the books which contain the light and knowledge in cautions, reproofs, and warnings. The cares of the world, the love of fashion, and the lack of religion have turned the attention from the light God has so graciously given, while books and periodicals containing error are traveling all over the country. Skepticism and infidelity are increasing everywhere. Light so precious, coming from the throne of God, is hid under a bushel. God will make His people responsible for this neglect. An account must be rendered to Him for every ray of light He has let shine upon our pathway, whether it has been improved to our advancement in divine things or rejected because it was more agreeable to follow inclination.”  Testimonies For the Church in Volume 4, pages 390.3-391.1

Please note the first 10 testimonies were compiled in one book which was republished in 1871 and thus the reason 1871 is shown on the title page. The actual dates these testimonies were written are indicated next to each testimony No. below. Individual Testimonies 11-33 are reflected accurately on each title page as these were published as individual booklets.

Originally, the series was issued as the four volumes of ‘Spiritual Gifts’; the first volume of that series appearing in 1858. Those volumes were enlarged to form the four volume set series below.

I remember that the “Testimonies” was once called “Love Letters to the Church”. If only our leaders would have made it a priority to read in the local churches and teach the meaning of those “Testimonies”, where would our church be today ? Slowly, as the “Testimonies” faded away from being “Love Letters”, so did our desire to hear them, take over. How sad the lessons we would have received if only we stayed with them. Thank You for putting them on your website. Now we have a second chance to view them again !! Praise God !!!

An iteresting quote from Word to the Little Flock: “Now what is this heaven that is to be shaken and rolled together as a scroll? We may not see this event so clearly now, as we shall about the time of its fulfilment; but still, it is our duty to receive, and cherish all the light that we can see on this, or any other future event. As we travel onward toward the Holy City, our burning lamps discover new objects: but we cannot see all at once. If we reject a little light, because we cannot see the whole clearly at once, it will displease our heavenly leader; and we shall be left in the dark. But if we cherish the light, as fast as it is our Lord’s will to open it to us, he will increase the light; and our souls will feast upon the opening truths of the blessed bible. {1847 JW, WLF 6.6}
